Submitting an upcoming manuscript requires careful preparation of your files, metadata, and supporting documents. Publishers such as Wiley, Elsevier, and Taylor & Francis use structured online portals to collect all required information before your paper enters the editorial queue.

Prepare Your Manuscript Files

Most journals accept .doc or .docx files for the main manuscript. Figures should be submitted as high-resolution TIFF or EPS files (minimum 300 dpi for photographs, 1000 dpi for line art). Remove author details from the manuscript file if the journal uses double-blind peer review.

Click 'Make a New Submission'

Log into your author portal and locate the Submit New Manuscript or Make a New Submission button. You will be guided through a multi-step wizard: article type selection, metadata entry, file upload, and final confirmation.

Enter Complete Metadata

Metadata accuracy directly affects discoverability. Enter the full title, a structured abstract (background, methods, results, conclusions), 5–8 keywords drawn from the journal's approved keyword list, and the correct article category (original research, review, case report, etc.).

Upload and Order Your Files

Upload the main manuscript, figures, tables, supplementary data, and cover letter as separate files. Arrange them in the correct display order. The portal will automatically compile a PDF proof — review it carefully for formatting errors before submission.

Submit and Confirm

After reviewing the proof, click Submit and agree to the copyright transfer or open-access licence. You will receive an automated confirmation email with a manuscript reference number. Keep this number for all future correspondence with the editorial team.

Summary

A well-prepared submission reduces the risk of technical rejection and speeds up the editorial process. Double-check word count limits, reference style (APA, Vancouver, Harvard), and figure resolution before clicking the final submit button. The time invested at this stage pays dividends later.
